Amplifying voices of young scientists
Last year, Mishal Faraz from the United Arab Emirates won the People’s Choice Award with “My Water Bottle Project”.
“Winning the People’s Choice Award has been an amazingly empowering and enriching experience. (…) Having a platform like SJWP helped me amplify my voice and my message not just within my school, but across other schools in the UAE and the community at large.” Mishal says.
Mishal developed a gamified platform designed to discourage the use of single-use plastic water bottles and strengthen water security.
“Having a platform like SJWP helped me amplify my voice and my message not just within my school, but across other schools in the UAE and the community at large.”
A life-changing experience
All finalists of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition describe the experience as being a real boost in their professional path. Many of them continue to study or work in water or environmental issues. Some of them even get to scale up and apply their innovation in concrete ways.
After winning the Award, Mishal was contacted by peers, community members, educators, as well as individuals from different fields who pledged their support to her project.
“This sure feels good! She says. Winning this prestigious award will always be one of the greatest honours of my life. I’m proud to be a part of this distinguished family of believers, doers, and changemakers. I’m extremely grateful to SIWI and SJWP for giving young people this monumentally powerful platform.
