Description

This event focuses on the need to adopt holistic and systemic approaches, such as source-to-sea management, that can address several SDGs simultaneously.
If we are to achieve the 2030 Agenda, we must accelerate progress.

Source-to-sea management is a much-needed game changer from current fragmented approaches that prevent decisive actions towards more sustainable, equitable and resilient societies. This innovative approach highlights the upstream and downstream linkages between actions on land (e.g., urban development, agriculture and forestry), freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems. Additionally, it fosters participation and collaboration between stakeholders to prioritize actions that hold the greatest potential for positive impacts in the whole system.

This session aims to build on the process of the UN 2023 Water Conference.

Representatives from around the world will share how they implement source-to-sea approaches effectively by:

  • identifying successes and opportunities,
  • discussing how to overcome challenges specific to their own contexts, and
  • highlighting what is necessary to advance on this transformation.

This interactive learning opportunity will encourage a behaviour shift towards working more comprehensively across the fulfilment of several SDGs, in particular SDGs 6, 13, 14, 15, 11, and 5.
