Creating World Water Week

The dedicated World Water Week team works year-round to create the ultimate arena for water-related issues. Each year has a specific theme, described in the Thematic Scope. The Scientific Programme Committee, consisting of distiguished water experts, are involved in setting the scope and organizing seminars, which are the scientific backbone of the Week and of the Thematic Scope.

Sessions are curated by SIWI but held by other organizations after a call for proposals. The World Water Week team is constantly monitoring trends and developments to be able to identify interesting sessions. Thanks to its cutting-edge content, World Water Week has become an important yearly event that influences international policy. In its recent hybrid form, the Week remains a memorable event for participants, as it provides an opportunity for people from all over the world to network, collaborate and learn from each other.

Awarding prestigious Prizes

The World Water Week team is also responsible for all events related to the Stockholm Water Prize and the Stockholm Junior Water Prize.

Stockholm Water Prize has been the world’s most prestigious water award. Since 1991 it is awarded to a person or organization who contributes to the conservation and protection of water resources, and to the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants. The laureates represent a wide range of water-related activities, professions, and scientific disciplines from all over the world. SIWI awards the Stockholm Water Prize in cooperation with the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The Prize is presented by the Prize’s Patron, the Swedish King H.M King Carl XVI Gustaf during World Water Week.

Stockholm Junior Water Prize has been awarded since 1996 and has become a popular part of World Water Week. It is a competition for students aged 15 to 20 who have developed school projects that can solve major water challenges. The competition attracts thousands of entries from around 40 countries. HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is the Patron of the prize.
